A new Learning Centre in Jane Furse, Limpopo
LEAP Science and Maths Schools, Edunova and Old Mutual launched a new Learning Centre serving the Jane Furse community on 21 May 2014.
The Learning Centre was opened on 21 May 2014 in partnership with LEAP Science and Maths School, Edunova and Old Mutual and will serve LEAP 5 and the twelve surrounding community schools in Jane Furse, Limpopo. The aim of the Learning Centre is to provide quality training and education opportunities for teachers and students using information technology and focusing on maths and science.
Traditional dancers opened the event with an energetic and entertaining dance, with the official welcome done by LEAP students. John Thole from Edunova spoke about how the Learning Centre will positively impact LEAP 5 and the community of Limpopo. The honour of cutting the green ribbon was given to Jerry van Niekerk from Old Mutual and John Thole. John Gilmour, Founder and Director of the LEAP Science and Maths Schools, closed the event with thanks to everyone involved.
Kulani Chauke, a LEAP 5 student, excitedly said “I have seen an opening ceremony on TV, and today I experienced it for real. It was so incredible to watch the ribbon being cut – just like it is on TV.” He also indicated that he is very excited about the Learning Centre and cannot wait for classes to begin.
For Busuiswe Makolane, the best part of the experience was taking the guests on a tour of her school. “I really enjoyed being a tour leader and meeting so many different people. Everyone was so impressed with our school; I felt very proud showing them around.”
LEAP, Edunova and Old Mutual are very excited about this partnership and the positive impact that the Learning Centre will have in Jane Furse.
