LEAP Voice: Celebrating Women
The third edition of the LEAP Voice came out on 18 September 2012.
August was Women’s month in South Africa. A month to look back and reflect on women’s contribution to the struggle for democracy and highlighted so eloquently in the Women’s Struggle Timeline on SA History Online. But it was also a time to think about what it means to be a woman in South Africa today.
As one remarkable woman, Dr Mamphela Ramphele, says:
Because so much of South Africa lacks voice and self-confidence in their capacity for civic engagement, public responses to failures in the performance of the public sector all too often take the form of violent protest.
In this issue, we hear from the women of the LEAP community, so that their voices can be heard.
